Our Story.

I've been blessed to call many places "home." Each of these places taught me something - or many somethings - and I wanted a way to orient myself even after I'd moved on. Armed with a gifted 3D printer, I started the project of mapping my homes.

Something was missing from these first maps though. Architects and designers say that one of the keys to creating an inviting space is "bringing the outside in." Natural elements - natural light, plants, flowers - make our buildings feel more like homes. I gathered some moss from a forest in East Tennesee and added it the bottom layer of my maps. The moss introduced a pop of color and texture but, more importantly, made the map feel alive. When I showed a coworker, they asked for a mossy map of their hometown. I made a simple website for this first commission, and Highground was born.
